RESUMEN

In the photovoltaic community, short circuit current (Isc) of a current mismatched multijunction photovoltaic (MJPV) cell was usually thought to be limited by the lowest subcell photocurrent (Imin). However, under certain conditions for multijunction solar cells, Isc≠Imin was observed by researchers, while this effect has not been studied in multijunction laser power converters (MJLPCs). In this work, we provide an in-depth analysis of the formation mechanisms for the Isc of the MJPV cell by measuring I-V curves of the GaAs and InGaAs LPCs with different number of subcells and simulating the I-V curves with the reverse breakdown of each subcell considered. It is found that Isc of an N-junction PV cell can be theoretically equal to any current value within a range from a current lower than Imin to the maximum subcell photocurrent, which is up to the number of subcell current steps in the forward biased I-V curve. An MJPV cell with a constant Imin will demonstrate a higher Isc if it has more subcells, smaller subcell reverse breakdown voltage and smaller series resistance. As a result, Isc tends to be limited by the photocurrent of a subcell closer to the middle cell and is less sensitive to the optical wavelength than Imin. This should be another possible reason why the measured EQE of a multijunction LPC exhibits a wider spectrum width than the calculated Imin-based EQE, whereas this was usually attributed to the luminescent coupling effect merely.

RESUMEN

African swine fever is a highly lethal contagious disease of pigs for which there is no vaccine. Its causative agent African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a highly complex enveloped DNA virus encoding more than 150 open reading frames. The antigenicity of ASFV is still unclear at present. In this study, 35 proteins of ASFV were expressed by Escherichia coli, and ELISA was developed for the detection of antibodies against these proteins. p30, p54, and p22 were presented as the major antigens of ASFV, positively reacting with all five clinical ASFV-positive pig sera, and 10 pig sera experimentally infected by ASFV. Five proteins (pB475L, pC129R, pE199L, pE184L, and pK145R) reacted well with ASFV-positive sera. The p30 induced a rapid and strong antibody immune response during ASFV infection. These results will promote the development of subunit vaccines and serum diagnostic methods against ASFV.

RESUMEN

Low threshold current and polarization-stabilized 795 nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are fabricated by integrating a surface grating of high polarization selectivity and high reflectivity. The rigorous coupled-wave analysis method is used to design the surface grating. For the devices with a grating period of 500 nm, a grating depth of ~150 nm, and a diameter of the surface grating region of 5 µm, a threshold current of 0.4 mA and an orthogonal polarization suppression ratio (OPSR) of 19.56 dB are obtained. The emission wavelength of 795 nm of a single transverse mode VCSEL is achieved at a temperature of 85 °C under an injection current of 0.9 mA. In addition, experiments demonstrate that the threshold and output power also depended on the size of the grating region.

RESUMEN

c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylation is widely observed during virus infection, modulating various aspects of the virus-host interaction. In our previous research, we have proved that B. mori ferritin heavy-chain homolog (BmFerHCH), an inhibitor of reactive oxygen species (ROS), facilitates B. mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) proliferation. However, one question remains: Which downstream signaling pathways does BmFerHCH regulate by inhibiting ROS? Here, we first determined that silencing BmFerHCH inhibits BmNPV proliferation, and this inhibition depends on ROS. Then, we substantiated that BmNPV infection activates the JNK signaling pathway. Interestingly, the JNK phosphorylation during BmNPV infection is activated by ROS. Further, we found that the enhanced nuclear translocation of phospho-JNK induced by BmNPV infection was dramatically reduced by pretreatment with the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC), whereas there was more detectable phospho-JNK in the cytoplasm. Next, we investigated how changes in BmFerHCH expression affect JNK phosphorylation. BmFerHCH overexpression suppressed the phosphorylation of JNK and nuclear translocation of phospho-JNK during BmNPV infection, whereas BmFerHCH knockdown facilitated phosphorylation of JNK and nuclear translocation of phospho-JNK. By measuring the viral load, we found the inhibitory effect of BmFerHCH knockdown on BmNPV infection depends on phosphorylated JNK. In addition, the JNK signaling pathway was involved in BmNPV-triggered apoptosis. Hence, we hypothesize that ROS-mediated JNK phosphorylation is involved in the regulation of BmFerHCH on BmNPV proliferation. These results elucidate the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways of BmFerHCH-mediated response to BmNPV infection.

RESUMEN

To improve localization and pose precision of visual-inertial simultaneous localization and mapping (viSLAM) in complex scenarios, it is necessary to tune the weights of the visual and inertial inputs during sensor fusion. To this end, we propose a resilient viSLAM algorithm based on covariance tuning. During back-end optimization of the viSLAM process, the unit-weight root-mean-square error (RMSE) of the visual reprojection and IMU preintegration in each optimization is computed to construct a covariance tuning function, producing a new covariance matrix. This is used to perform another round of nonlinear optimization, effectively improving pose and localization precision without closed-loop detection. In the validation experiment, our algorithm outperformed the OKVIS, R-VIO, and VINS-Mono open-source viSLAM frameworks in pose and localization precision on the EuRoc dataset, at all difficulty levels.

RESUMEN

795 nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) with in-phase surface gratings are fabricated and investigated theoretically and experimentally. The polarization characteristics of 795 nm VCSELs with various grating periods and depths are analyzed using the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) method; the dependence of polarization stability on the profile of gratings demonstrates that the trapezoid grating ridge slightly enhances the orthogonal polarization suppression ratio (OPSR), but increases the threshold current. The fabricated VCSELs with a sub-wavelength in-phase surface grating of a duty cycle of 0.5 show stabilized output polarization at the cost of increasing the threshold current which is in agreement with the calculations. The grating VCSELs with a period of 200 nm and an oxide aperture of 3.43µm×4.39µm produce a single-mode output with an OPSR of 16.6 dB and a slope efficiency of 0.42 W/A at 85°C.

RESUMEN

Ferritin heavy chain (FerHCH) is a major component of ferritin and plays an important role in maintaining iron homeostasis and redox equilibrium. Our previous studies have demonstrated that the Bombyx mori ferritin heavy chain homolog (BmFerHCH) could respond to B. mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) infection. However, the mechanism by which BmNPV regulates the expression of BmFerHCH remains unclear. In this study, BmFerHCH increased after BmNPV infection and BmNPV infection enhanced nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activity in BmN cells. An NF-κB inhibitor (PDTC) reduced the expression of the virus-induced BmFerHCH in BmN cells, and overexpression of BmRelish (NF-κB) increased the expression of virus-induced BmFerHCH in BmN cells. Furthermore, BmNPV infection enhanced BmFerHCH promoter activity. The potential NF-κB cis-regulatory elements (CREs) in the BmFerHCH promoter were screened by using the JASPAR CORE database, and two effective NF-κB CREs were identified using a dual luciferase reporting system and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA). BmRelish (NF-κB) bound to NF-κB CREs and promoted the transcription of BmFerHCH. Taken together, BmNPV promotes activation of BmRelish (NF-κB), and activated BmRelish (NF-κB) binds to NF-κB CREs of BmFerHCH promoter to enhance BmFerHCH expression. Our study provides a foundation for future research on the function of BmFerHCH in BmNPV infection.

RESUMEN

Malathion is an organophosphorus pesticide which could remain in agricultural products and exert irreversible harmful effects on human health. Hence, strict monitoring of malathion contents is very significant. Here, a highly sensitive fluorescent aptasensor was developed for the determination of malathion, the system was based on a cationic polymer-mediated fluorescence 'turn-off'. In this system, malathion-specific aptamers were bound to cationic polymer through electrostatic interactions. To produce fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), negatively charged upconversion fluorescent nanoparticles (UCNPs) and cationic-polymer encapsulated gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were combined. This combination resulted in fluorescence quenching, and the degree of quenching was correlated with the concentration of malathion. Under optimum conditions, the fluorescence intensities were observed to decrease linearly with the rising concentration of the malathion from 0.01 to 1 µM with a detection limit of 1.42 nM. Furthermore, the developed sensor possessed good selective recognition ability for malathion and was successfully used to detect malathion in adulterated tap water and matcha samples with high accuracy.

RESUMEN

This paper demonstrates the application of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) using positive charged gold nanorods (Au NRs) as an enhancement substrate to classify Pseudomonas spp. coupled with multivariate methods. Four species of Pseudomonas as dominant spoilage bacteria of food were isolated from rotten chicken, namely, Pseudomonas gessardii (P9), Pseudomonas psychrophila (P8), Pseudomonas psychrophila (S2) and Pseudomonas fluorescens (T3). Au NRs were synthesized with positive charge by seed-mediated growth method which can be adsorbed onto the surface of the bacteria by electrostatic adsorption. SERS spectra were collected individually for four types of Pseudomonas and pretreated by mean centering (MC), then principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering analysis (LDA) were used to achieve data dimensionality reduction and visualize the result of differentiation for the species of Pseudomonas. Particularly, the classification accuracy of LDA was reached to 100%. Following we applied hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) to cluster each species of Pseudomonas and the results of HCA consistent with the results of 16S rRNA. This study has shown that SERS combined with LDA and HCA can be used as a reliable method to classify Pseudomonas.

RESUMEN

To investigate the drive-mode resonance frequency of a micromachined vibratory gyroscope (MVG), one needs to measure it accurately and efficiently. The conventional approach to measure the resonant frequency is by performing a sweep frequency test and spectrum analysis. The method is time-consuming and inconvenient because of the requirements of many test points, a lot of data storage and off-line analyses. In this paper, we propose two novel measurement methods, the search method and track method, respectively. The former is based on the magnitude-frequency characteristics of the drive mode, utilizing a one-dimensional search technique. The latter is based on the phase-frequency characteristics, applying a feedback control loop. Their performances in precision, noise resistivity and efficiency are analyzed through detailed simulations. A test system is implemented based on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) and experiments are carried out. By comparing with the common approach, feasibility and superiorities of the proposed methods are validated. In particular, significant efficiency improvements are achieved whereby the conventional frequency method consumes nearly 5,000 s to finish a measurement, while only 5 s is needed for the track method and 1 s for the search method.
